Life span: Adults live for approximately
four to six months. Grubs grow quickly,
usually taking less than 12 months to
  become adult beetles.

Diet: Adults eat apple or banana slices,
or many other types of fruit. Grubs will
eat a mixture of rotten leaves, rotten wood
compost, and just about anything else.

Notes: Grubs can be kept together without
hurting or disturbing each other until they
are almost ready to pupate. They should then
be separated, unless they are in a container
with lots of room. Grubs form a hard shell
from the surrounding dirt to protect
themselves as they become adults. The
container should not be moved or disturbed
at this point or the grubs will break out of
their pupal cells. Females need some of the
substrate that grubs have lived in to induce
egg laying. Without this they will lay few to
  no eggs.
